Fall Semester Review

The following, based off this Chris Guillbeau post, is a review of my last semester. In a few days I’ll outline my vision for next semester. (Planning the whole year, given the uncertainty involved, is too much to wrap my head around).

What went really well this past semester:

Ran the 1000 Pitches Summit, developed new MPowered friendships, and gained leadership and organizational experience.

Due to a person in particular, there is much more (lowercase) love in my life right now.

Read 10 Books outside of classes.

Wrote 5 columns and 2 longer papers I’m proud of, seeing improvements along the way.

Physically: –Was consistent in my Pushups/Jump Rope/Abs routine, but I would like to get back into basketball. Otherwise, I ate well. Added vegetable stir fry and fruit smoothies to my – humble -- repertoire: an omlette for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, and chicken & salad for dinner, with some cashews and raisins interspersed for good measure.

Made some new friends and further developed some old ones.

Highlights: Start Up Weekend Chicago. 322 John Breakfasts. Potlucks. The time when Andrew rapped uncontrollably in Spanish. Chaser recording and spontaneous freestyling sessions. The day of the Summit. And JoHanna, generally.

What did not go well:

I spread myself too thin on some relationships. There are people who I would have liked to develop relationships with (e.g. Trevor/Hornstein/Chaim/Seth/Julian/Aaron) but didn’t, and people who I already had strong relationships with (e.g. Naomi/Merlo/Noel Gordon) but haven’t made a strong enough effort to maintain them.

Instead of loving back, I got stuck on questioning if this was always working, or if I was always passionate about it.

What I read and wrote was chosen a bit arbitrarily. I didn’t read or write with others.

There wasn't enough foresight in planning epic trips and experiences. I didn’t reflect or appreciate enough. That's something I will change next semester, regardless of how hectic things get.
